CTV reports that Gene Simmons and his family yesterday (December 29th) arrived in Vancouver International Airport. They were on their way to Whistler, B.C. for a winter vacation. You might wonder why Canadian TV reports that Gene has arrived. The film crew was at the airport to interview Swedish ice hockey star Mats Sundin but when they didn't got hold of him they found Gene instead. Now I’m back from my vacation, it was great! So now it’s time again to update you with the latest Kiss news.
The most important news while I was away is of course the fact that Kiss now have confirmed that there will be a new studio album. As you already know, Paul Stanley will produce the album and the release is said to happen in the summer. That's somehting to look forward to!

Holiday Time

Great Poster Book Featuring Kiss

In the 1970s the Swedish magazine Poster was one of the best sources to find information and – obviously – posters of your favorite bands. A generation of Swedish rock and pop fans has grown up with this magazine. Kiss was one of the most featured bands and it’s definately safe to say that Poster was a huge part in Kiss’ success in Sweden. Now a really nice and interesting book regarding this magazine has been released. Although the text is in Swedish there is enough photos to make anyone satisfied. Kissin' Time Acetate Available On Ebay

English rock photographer Ross Halfin claims in his diary that Paul Stanley considers making a new Kiss album. Halfin writes the following:

There will not be any European Kiss tour during 2009, at least not during the spring. However, it seems like there will a North American tour starting in April or May.

Heaven's On Fire Performed On Swedish Idol TV Show

In the latest episode of the Swedish version of "American Idol" (simply called "Idol") none other than Desmond Child was the guest in the jury. The contestants performed songs written by Desmond Child, such as Alice Cooper's Poison and Bon Jovi's Living On A Prayer. But most interesting was when Alice Svensson did Heaven's On Fire. She did a great version of the song and Desmond Child seemed to be really impressed. Watch it here:

Tobias Sammet Of Edguy To Sing On the Upcoming Bruce Kulick CD

Bruce Kulick reveals on his website (www.kulick.net) that lead vocalist Tobias Sammet of German metal band Edguy has recorded vocals for one song during the recordings on the upcoming Bruce Kulick solo CD BK III. Tobias Sammet is a great vocalist so this will definately be interesting to hear. There is already a connection between Sammet and Kiss since Eric Singer played drums on Sammet's project Avantasia.

Cheesy Swedish Dance Band Covers I Was Made For Loving You On National TV

Do you remember that I earlier this year mentioned that the cheesy Swedish arena show "Rhapsody In Rock" did a medley of Kiss songs (http://www.kissonfire.net/2008/07/kiss-songs-featured-in-swedish.html)?

Well. the cheesy Kiss stuff keeps happening in Sweden. Last Saturday Swedish national TV showed the premiere episode of "Dansbandskampen" which is a contest featuring Swedish dance bands. One Live Kiss And Kiss Ikons Now Released

Yesterday (October 21st) was the release date of two very interesting Kiss products.
We have the DVD from Paul Stanley's solo tour which really is good. Great songs, amazing musicians and some really cool filming. To hear the Kiss songs played this way is a great thing. And it's also nice that songs like Magic Touch and A Million To One still work so good.

Besides this DVD yesterday was also the release date of the four CD set Kiss Ikons. What differs this from the thousand other Kiss compilations released is that each CD represents each original member. A nice idea. There are obvioulsy more songs to chose from on Paul's and Gene's CDs but that doesn't stop Ace's and Peter's CDs to hold a high class.

Paul Stanley And Tommy Thayer Play Secret Acoustic Gig

Paulstanley.com reports that Paul Stanley and Tommy Thayer did a short acoustic set after Paul's gallery show in McLean, VA last Saturday. Some 30 art collectors were invited and had a dinner where Paul and Tommy ate each course at different tables. After the dinner Paul and Tommy played a short set with Kiss and Beatles classics.

Metal Xmas CD Released Tomorrow

I have now gotten hold of a copy of the compilation CD We Wish You A Metal Xmas And A Headbanging New Year which will be released tomorrow (October 14th). As mentioned here on Kiss On Fire before, it features among other metal celebrities Bruce and Bob Kulick. However, Ace Frehley is NOT featured on this CD.

Some of the songs on the CD are really good, especially Santa Claus Is Back In Town (featuring Tim Ripper Owens on vocals) and God Rest Ye Merry Getlemen (featuring Ronnie James Dio, Tony Iommmi, Rudy Sarzo and Simon Wright). The Kulick Brothers play guitar on We Wish You A Merry Xmas and Rockin' Round The Xmas which both sound great. Bob Kulick also plays on Grandma Got Ran Over By A Reindeer.

This is definately an essential addition to any Kiss collection and of course the perfect album to play at upcoming Christmas parties.

We all have heard that it was Ace Frehley who designed the Kiss logo. This has been mentioned several times in interviews, books etc. So it's a bit surprising that Paul Stanley now claims that he is the one who designed the logo. In an interview with The Conncection Newspaper in Virginia you can read the following:

STANLEY’S HAND was behind the makeup and costumes that helped make KISS world-famous, as well as some of its set designs, album covers and apparel. "I always had a very clear vision for the band and what I wanted it to be," he said. He created the KISS logo sitting at a table in his parents’ house while he lived there. "That’s why the two S’s are not completely parallel," he said, adding that when the band’s design team offered to straighten them, he declined.

Gene Simmons To Appear At MTV Latin America Award Show

26 Years Since The Vinnie Vincent Announcement

Today it's 26 years since Vinnie Vincent was announced as the new guitar player of Kiss. This happened September 30th 1982. He had worked with the band during the writing and recording of Creatures Of The Night. This album was released October 13th 1982 and as we all know Ace Frehley didn't play on the album although he is on the cover.

Paul Stanley Buys Las Vegas Home

Las Vegas Blockshopper reports that Paul Stanley has bought a two bedroom, two bath condo in the Palms Place development in Paradise (Las Vegas). This was built in 2007. The price is said to have been USD 3.29 million. The Palms Palace is a 47 story building with 599 units. Other tenants includes Jessica Simpson and racing driver Mario Andretti.

Kiss The Exhibition In Gothenburg, Sweden

Last Saturday (September 29th) I visited ”Kiss The Exhibition” at Frölunda Kulturhus in Gothenburg, Sweden. This is an exhibition put toghether by Swedish Kiss fan Alexander Johansson.

The exhibition is very nicely put together and there are a lot of interesting items there, such as pieces of clothing, a lot of the old toys (the toy guitar, the record player etc), some really rare records etc. A unique item is the helmet that Swedish ice hockey goalkeeper Håkan Algotsson used to wear when he played in the local team Frölunda. This helmet features a really nice painting of the band. Alexander told me that this helmet is borrowed from Håkan Algotsson but he hopes to be able to buy it from him soon.

Some of the items might not be of that much interest to die-hard Kiss fans (such as posters from the re-union shows, newer T-shirts etc) but I realize that Alexander needs to make the exhibition interesting also for medium-interested fans.

Alexander told me that the attendance figures had been really good. And during the time I was there people kept coming all the time.
