Yes, yesterday was "KISS Rock and Roll Day" in South Dakota and I was there. Governor Mike Rounds did make the show and presented the proclamation along with Sturgis Mayor Maury LaRue. I've got pictures from backstage and onstage if you would like them.
My son and I were at the KISS concert in Sturgis, Fornt row...about ten feet from the band. It was AMAZING. I have fantastic pictures, up close and very clear...about 100 of them. If you are interested please contact me.
I left Colorado Springs on Sunday the 3rd and drove up to Torrington Wyoming. Stayed the night there...it was a long night too because the hotel was about 50 yards from a train track! Anyway I drove to Sturgis on Monday (with a stop at Mt Rushmore...wow, that was so cool!) and at this point I was in with bikes...it was a nice drive! I arrived at Sturgis around 1 in the afternoon...then I drove around trying to find the Glencoe Resort...I actually had to stop and ask for directions (how about that) and got to Glencoe about 3:00. I was the first car parked! And I was 1st in line at the gate! While waiting in line KISS manager Doc McGee drove by us! Finally ay 5:30 the gates opened...my ticket was the first one torn! I walked down the hill, bought a $5 small lemonaide (at this point I was just thirsty and didn't care) and found my spot...front row a little to the left of center. At 7:30 a comedian came on...he was very good and funny, then the 1st warm up band....not a bad job, but I had never heard of them....the 2nd warm up band was just god aweful... then at 10:30 the words rang out "Alright Sturgis! You wanted the best, you got the best, the hottest band in the world.....KISS!
The curtain dropped and the band decended down from the lights! Kicking it off with Duece and OMG was it ever LOUD! Kiss played a set that was just shy of two hours. Here's the songs I recall....It was way to crowded where I was so trying to write down the songs was just impossible.
Duece
Strutter
Hotter Than Hell
Nothin to Loose
She
Parasite
100.000 Years
Black Diamond
Rock and Roll All Night
Shout It Out Loud
Lick It Up (including a short cover of the Who song Won't Get Fooled Again)
I love It Loud
Detroit Rock City
It was an awesome show and I managed to get a guitar pick from Paul
the show ended at about 12:20
I had a fantastic time and drove all the way home after the show (with a few nap stops) and got home about 2:00 in the afternoon on Tuesday.
